Matteo Campulla – DISRUPTED /// what a dream the end of the body, 3:00, 2023

From the concept of DAS IMMERGLEICHE (“always the same”) which began with my previous work “BE HERE NOW – the glitch of being in the society of continuous present” (with references to Jacques Derrida and Mark Fisher) by adding new elements his language (3D design and animation combined with faulty 3D scanning of the human body and landscapes). Various triangular sets of geometric figures that rotate according to similar orbits but with different durations, artificially superimposed in the assembly phase to create different planes of chaos. The concept, which is also revealed in the subtitled version, is that of the disappearance of the body, of its non-existence. Of its disrupting. The body, which we initially see only in its abstract atomic being, is finally revealed in its simulacrum obtained from 3D scans of the human body. This is the end of the body and the birth of the electric body (quoting Walt Whitman), a digital simulacrum of his. Furthermore, this video represents an overcoming of the limit between reality and imitation that the artist have been trying to represent and reveal for years through the use of glitches, errors and with the datamosh technique.

Matteo Campulla (b. 1982 – Iglesias, Sardinia) began his artistic practice in the late 90s in various anonymous collectives. After graduating from the art school of Cagliari and briefly attending the electronic music and new technologies course at the Cagliari Conservatory of Music, he was trained as a production technician in a small Sardinian Television Station, a job he will carry out for more than 10 years and greatly influenced his work. In 2019 he moved to Milan, where he still lives and works.
His work is influenced by the contamination between languages and uses the glitch as an aesthetic description of the contemporary crisis of the individual and his perception of reality.

In 2013, with the series “THEY KNOW IT”, he won the video section of the “Premio BABEL”, dedicated to the best Sardinian artists under 35. In 2022, the work “BE HERE NOW” was selected by VisualContainer for “PANORAMICA*21 “ among the ten most significant videos of the Italian video art scene of 2021. In 2022 he was a finalist of the “Videoinsight® Prize”, in 2020 he was a finalist in the Video Art Section of the “Art Rights Prize”.
