PANORAMICA* is Visualcontainer’s national open call dedicated to the research of Italian video art. Now in its fourth edition, the project highlights some of the most original and significant video works produced in Italy during 2024, offering a snapshot of urgent topics, emerging sensibilities, and ongoing experiments in moving-image practices.

PANORAMICA* is conceived as both curatorial research and public dissemination: it collects selected works and shares them through exhibitions, screenings, and online presentations in national and international contexts—while contributing to Visualcontainer’s long-term research on Italian video art, which has been active since 2008.

SUSPENDED DIALOGUES brings together works in which narration and memory become both material and method. Across different approaches—intimate, performative, diaristic, speculative—the selected artists return to the act of holding an image: capturing a fragment of experience, reactivating a thought, or re-performing the past as a present tension.

In these videos, memory is not treated as a stable archive, but as a vibrating field—a dialogue that can also become a soliloquy—suspended between contingency and the amniotic unconscious. The result is a porous space where boundaries soften: between reality and mental landscape, analogue traces and digital constructions, the visual and the performative.

Rather than illustrating stories, the works assemble conditions for listening and looking: micro-narratives, interruptions, residues, and re-enactments that open a reflective zone—where the image does not “explain,” but stays with the viewer.

Visualcontainer is a platform that was established in 2008 to research and promote video art and new media works. The platform’s primary objective is to showcase artists working with the latest digital audiovisual languages, from hybrid forms to experimentation with new media, and to engage and captivate audiences and professionals. This long-term project aims to support and promote digital culture and emerging artists in Italy and beyond through a network of promotion and dissemination. As a result, we are always looking for new perspectives and partnerships.

Alessandra Arnò is an Italian curator, researcher, and educator working at the intersection of moving image, digital media aesthetics, and visual culture.
Her curatorial practice focuses on scouting and promoting innovative audiovisual and multimedia works, with particular attention to gaps in technology, feminist and decolonial approaches, hybrid formats, and expanded forms of presentation across museums, institutions, festivals, and independent spaces. She regularly contributes to the field through talks, conferences, round tables, and festival juries, sharing research on video art, new media, and contemporary image practices.
